Introducing the West Coast's newest Christmas tree, the "Leylandia". It's available only at Peltzer Pines and is ready for this years holiday season. You can find it at all three Peltzer Pines Farms. There are no naturally occurring Leyland cypress. In 1888, six seedlings were discovered by C. J. Leyland at Leighton Hall in the South of Wales. The two parent trees were growing on the Estate and cross bred purely by accident. This type of crossbreeding is a rare occurrence in plants, especially so in conifers. The foliage of the Leyland cypress tends to be arranged in irregularly flat planes with a dark green to light green color. The shoots branch repeatedly and have a contrasting mahogany color except at the tips. The bark of the Leyland cypress has a skin-like texture and is quite delicate. In its mature form, heights of 138' are possible. This is a long lasting tree with soft texture foliage that will add Old World charm to your Holiday Season.
